Terms of Use

These terms apply to the public services operated by the Brokerr project. They do not replace or restrict the open-source license that governs the self-hosted Brokerr software.

1. Scope and acceptance

These terms govern your use of the following services operated by the Brokerr project:

  • the public website at https://brokerr.net;
  • the Brokerr documentation; and
  • the hosted OAuth gateway at auth.brokerr.net.

Together, these are the Hosted Services. By using a Hosted Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Hosted Services. If you use them on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization.

A Brokerr instance operated by another person or organization is not one of our Hosted Services. Its operator is responsible for that instance and may provide separate terms.

2. Hosted OAuth gateway

The optional OAuth gateway helps a self-hosted Brokerr instance complete authorization with a supported third-party provider. It does not create a Brokerr cloud account, host your media library, or operate synchronization jobs on your behalf.

You authorize the gateway to exchange the temporary authorization information and tokens required to connect the provider you selected. Processing and retention are described in thePrivacy Policy. You may instead configure your own provider credentials where Brokerr supports that option.

We may enforce rate limits, reject malformed or suspicious requests, or temporarily block access where reasonably necessary to protect users, providers, and the availability or security of the gateway.

3. Your responsibilities and acceptable use

You are responsible for:

  • connecting only accounts, servers, and libraries that you own or are authorized to manage;
  • keeping your self-hosted instance, credentials, encryption keys, and access controls secure;
  • reviewing dry runs, mappings, export files, and planned changes before applying or importing them;
  • maintaining backups appropriate for data that a synchronization or import could modify; and
  • complying with applicable law and the rules of every connected third-party service.

You must not use a Hosted Service to:

  • access another person's account or data without permission;
  • interfere with, overload, probe, scrape, or attempt to bypass the security or limits of the service;
  • distribute malware, submit unlawful content, or facilitate fraud or other harmful activity;
  • extract, expose, or share provider credentials, OAuth tokens, or gateway claim secrets; or
  • misrepresent an affiliation with Brokerr or a supported provider.

4. Third-party services

Brokerr interoperates with independent services such as Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, AniList, MyAnimeList, TMDB, SIMKL, Trakt, and Letterboxd. Your relationship with each provider is governed by that provider's own terms, policies, availability, and account permissions. We do not control and are not responsible for a provider's service, content, API changes, rate limits, account decisions, or data accuracy.

Provider names and marks belong to their respective owners. Their inclusion describes interoperability and does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or certification. Brokerr uses the Letterboxd API but is not endorsed or certified by Letterboxd.

5. Synchronization and data operations

Brokerr can plan, apply, revert, export, or import media state according to your configuration and the capabilities of connected services. Matching can be imperfect, provider behavior can change, and some operations cannot be reversed through an API or file import. A successful Brokerr run does not guarantee that a third-party service accepted, retained, or displayed every change as expected.

You remain responsible for choosing profiles and rules, checking results, confirming file imports, and correcting third-party state when an automated reversal is unavailable. Do not treat Brokerr run history as your only backup.

6. Availability, suspension, and changes

The Hosted Services are provided without a guaranteed service level. They may be unavailable due to maintenance, incidents, provider changes, capacity limits, or circumstances outside our control. We may modify or discontinue a Hosted Service and will provide reasonable notice of a material planned change where practical.

We may suspend or restrict access where we reasonably believe these terms have been violated or access creates a security, legal, provider-compliance, or availability risk. Where appropriate, you may contact us to request a review of that restriction.

7. Open-source software and project content

The self-hosted Brokerr software is licensed under the license distributed with its source code, currently the GNU General Public License version 3. That license—not these terms—governs your right to copy, modify, and distribute the software. These terms do not add restrictions to rights granted by that license.

Unless a separate license or attribution says otherwise, the Brokerr name, branding, website text, and documentation remain protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may link to the public website and documentation, but may not imply that a modified project or service is officially operated, endorsed, or certified by Brokerr.

8. Warranty and limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Hosted Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every provider change, or suitable for a particular purpose.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of access to a third-party account, or damage caused by your configuration, credentials, self-hosted environment, connected provider, or failure to review or back up data. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability or mandatory rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the Hosted Services, providers, security practices, or legal requirements. The updated version will be published here with a new last-updated date. Material changes will apply prospectively and will be highlighted through an appropriate project channel where practical. Continued use after an updated version takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, without overriding any mandatory consumer protection or other rights that apply under the law of your country. Courts with jurisdiction under applicable law may hear disputes arising from the Hosted Services.

If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A failure to enforce a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of that provision.
